With the increase of violent robbery in Hong Kong a special unit known as the SDU is created. Several people volunteer to be join the SDU including a police officer who lost his partner while trying to stop robbers. The volunteers go through several week of preparation for the training but most of them fail or quit, the remaining join SDU and begin the real training. Once they start their work they risk their lives every day, soon the members of SDU must deal with the conflict between doing their job and their personal lives.
If you ever wondered what a regular day was like for a swat team member, this movie is the answer to that. It goes through every step of the way starting with the training to finally showing how it affects the team members personal life. There is no complex story, it is very simple it is a look at the lives of this men who take on this dangerous job.
The story focuses on one team of SDU, its mainly about 3 characters in the team. One is the commander (Michael Wong) of the team, and the 2 others became good friends while in training. You get a good feeling for these 3 characters as you see how their job affects their personal life. As for the rest of the SDU team they are in the background and you never really get to know them, we really found that was lacking as we were curious about the other team members. You can say the same for the villains they were pretty much in the background except for one villain whose goal was to kill police officers but even he was in the background.
There might be a simple story but damn is there a lot of action. The first half of the movie is quiet because its mostly training but even that is interesting to see, during the second half the SDU team is ready for action. You get to see the swat team in action as they take down the bad guys, its very well done and is done in a realistic way. The movie finishes with one final mission where the action does not stop as the SDU team faces impossible odds to stop the crooks. The action scenes had excellent camera shots, no shaky camera like other films. Also it was kept at a very realistic level, no Rambo stuff.
On the Mei Ah version the subtitles were clear and the letters visible. At this point we are wondering if there is some guy in Hong Kong who is paid to make sure that every movie has some white on white subtitles where you cant read anything, since yet again we have this problem in this movie as well. For anybody who likes action movies, story about special SWAT team forces or a Rainbow Six fan, you are really going to enjoy this film. The action will keep you on the edge of your seat and the realism in look will make it believable.
