Drunken Master 2 is a kung fu classic about factory workers being mistreated by their boss who works for the British. In the meantime Fei-Hung (Jackie Chan) comes in possession of a rare Chinese artifact that the British want. With the help of a local fishermen and his friends, Fei-Hung allies with the factory workers to stop the British from exporting china's historical artifacts. During the process Fei-Hung has problems with his father who does not approve of his actions nor his excessive drinking.
With a simple story what makes Drunken Master II a classic is the mind blowing kung fu choreography. Jackie Chan does drunken boxing with style, his movements are flawless. In addition to his use of drunken boxing Jackie Chan employs several other styles of kung fu, including the famous bench fighting. There is also a fight in the movie where Fei-Hung and his friend must face a hundred enemies, its truly an amazing sight to watch. The final fight with Fei-Hung against the factory boss is one of the finest we have seen (trust us, we have seen a lot of kung fu movies). The characters are simple but Fei-Hung's father is the exception, his character is extremely well played and you'll easily get attached to this character.
Most of Jackie Chan fans consider this film as his best performance, we have to say we agree. If you like Jackie Chan movies be sure to check it out, you wont be disappointed. One slight negative point is that the subtitles were not so good on the Mei Ah version.
Finally a version on DVD with decent English subtitle. The image quality for this version (Thakral Entertainment) is very good, well for an HK DVD. Unfortunately the aspect ration is incorrect, yes it's letterboxed but slightly cropped, but don't worry you wont miss that much of action. As for the audio you have a good Dolby Digital 5.1. The English sub are excellent and are also removable. For the extra you have: Chapters selection and 3 extra trailers: Thunderbolt, Big Bullet and Future Cops. The extra trailers start right away when you play the DVD but you can skip them by pressing Menu on your controler. Also the menus are in Chinese but you don't have that much options so you wont be lost. Even if this DVD is not perfect, it's the only one with English sub and completely uncut, this is probably the best version you can find right now, but don't spend a fortune on it.
