Review

Clean my Name, Mr. Coroner is a police investigation type drama, this movie was very popular in Hong Kong and did very well in the box office. The movie is about basically a cop who is framed for murder and is trying to clear his name with the help of this geekish doctor. The story in this movie is very good and probably that is the strongest point. The story is easy to follow, they don't try to confuse you, you will have a lot of questions during the movie but everything is eventually answered.

There characters were very good in this movie and added that extra touch that made the movie even better. Another thing that stuck out in this movie was the character that Francis Ng was playing, he was playing the cowardly and geekish Dr. Ko. Those who are familiar with Francis Ng know that he never played this kind of role before, in fact he is usually a "don't mess with me" kind of guy. He played the Dr. Ko role perfectly, this shows that he is truly a versatile actor and deserves his position as one of the top actors in Hong Kong. The rest of the cast was great, they were really well chosen for this movie as they had a certain chemistry. The characters were really interesting, they did not have any real background but they evolved a little during the movie as friendship between them. If the characters were not as good as they were this film probably would not have been as good.

This movie was more orientated towards investigation and suspense, there was very little true action. There were a couple small fights but nothing really exciting, it was more for the development of the story than for the action factor. The true entertainment of this movie was the development of the story, you always wondered what would be next, who was that sneaky guy and if they would find the money. In addition to the basic story line the character interactions really brought things to life, and for the final touch they threw in some comedy in all the right places.

The subtitles were great of the DVD version and the dialogs were simple to follow. After hearing of the success of this movie in Hong Kong we wanted to check it out. We were not disappointed in the least, this movie was very good, there might be nothing exceptional about it but in truth all you need is a good story and some great characters and you will have a movie that everyone can enjoy. We recommend this movie to the general public as we believe anyone can enjoy this movie.

The image quality (LTB) was generally good but there were a lot of minor scratches on the print for the entire duration of the movie, that kind of sucks for new movie. The sounds was a good 5.1 surround sounds. The extras included on this DVD are: Chapter selection, Cast and Crew, Synopsis, Official Trailer, extra trailer for In the mood for love. This is an average DVD for a good movie.
