1964 - Drama, Horror - Japan
When a feudal war calls the local men to action, a mother and her daughter-in-law struggle to survive. Forced to resort to acts of murder, the two women prey upon lost samurai, killing any passer-bys under the safety of the reed covered marshes that surround their home. This hand-to-mouth way of life proves sufficient enough to sustain, and the two scrounge out a meagre existence by selling their loot to a local profiteer. One night, a neighbor, returning from the field of battle, arrives famished and exhausted from his travels. He proceeds to explain to the two women how their husband/son was slaughtered before his very eyes. His arrival sets the foundation for a frightfully sensual whirlwind of lust, envy, and murder, the likes of which may send the entire trio head first into hell.

1962 - Drama - Japan
Otoshiana described by Teshigahara as a documentary-fantasy, is a social critique set in the post-war mining communities of western Japan. A homeless miner, following a tip for some good work, is pursued and killed by a man clothed entirely in white. A woman in the deserted nearby village witnesses the murder, and is bullied by the murderer into giving false testimony to the police, implicating a nearby union leader in the process. Mistrust spreads throughout the mining community and more deaths follow. As the characters are killed, their ghosts rise from the ground and follow the play of the action, like vocal audience members, unable to address the living but imploring them just the same to answer the question, 'Why was I killed? What was it for? Where was the meaning in my life?'
