A guy gets killed in the street during a rainstorm, his death seems suspicious so Detectives Woo and Kim get on the case. They start searching for possible clues, luck on their side when they arrest a drug dealer who has some information on the possible killer. Eventually they find out the identity of the killers girlfriend and basically use her to try to find him. They try to catch him but each time they get close the guy manages to escape, detective Woo and Kim take this personally and will stop at nothing to catch this crook.
This is a police action thriller, with an extremely straight forward story. During the opening credits you'll notice something different about the movie, with the odd angle shots on black and white film your guaranteed an interesting ride. During the entire movie there are some very exotic camera shots from an interesting use of color and lighting. Just the scenery itself is very well exploited like the chase scene in the harbor or the snowy night. The story itself is really basic, its the usual cops search for clue and find the bad guy.
There are some really interesting characters, in the opening credits when you first see one of the main characters he does not look too bright and looks like crook. This character turns out to be one of the cops and he is certainly an interesting one at that. The other police characters are interesting like the squad with the baseball bats. But most of the focus is place on Woo (opening credits cop) and his partner Kim.
Since this is a police movie both you expect a little action right? You do get some action as expected but its is little different that what you would imagine in a police movie. There is no big gun fight like in HK movie, instead you have these guys who love brawling in the street, some of the cops don't even carry guns they prefer a lead pipe. We thought this was pretty cool, it certainly was different and added to the style of the movie. The fights themselves are pretty realistic and you have enough action in the movie to make it sensible. There is also a small amount of humour in this movie, its humour that is portrayed in physical actions and not words. Its the kind of humour that you would not expect, its more like seeing certain situations in a humourous light.
This movie really stands out because of the rich cinematography, the story alone in this movie would stand at the same level as an episode of a police series on TV. So you can guess the story is not too detailed but the way they manage to bring us such a simple story it quite incredible. The best thing about the style in this movie is that they don't repeat the same stuff over and over, its all different things throughout the movie. A lot of thought and creativity went into this movie, if you have a chance to see it at a local theater we suggest you check it out if you like something a little different from typical American cinema.
The image qualtity (LTB) is excellent, the transfer is very sharp. But unfortunalty not anamorphic like the packaging said. You will also have to switch your DVD to anamorphic or the image will be squeased. As for the sound you have a great surround sound 5.1. As for the Extra: Chapter selection, cast N`crew infos, Theatrical trailer, music video, making of and interview (no sub). Since the American DVD is cut by 20 min, this korean version is the one too get. This movie is really stylish and the best way to experience this movie in all his glory is this DVD. So if you are interested in watching this movie, get the DVD, you wont be dissapointed.
