Review

TL;DR; Enthiran is like the indian family friendly version of Terminator, sort of. It has a mix of action, comedy and drama, oh and let us not forget those song and dance montages typical of indian films. While there is a healthy dose of cheesiness this movie is overall fun and enjoyable to watch.

Enthiran is a great example of an indian film with excellent production value and featuring a story that is pretty accessible to an international audience. While I have not had the chance to view  many indian films, I’d say Enthiran is the best one I’ve seen so far. I’d definitely recommend this one for anyone who has never seen an indian movie.

The overall story is easy to follow and surprisingly well developed with a couple of arcs spanning the nearly 3 hour movie run time. The story is light hearted and something that the whole family can enjoy. Some of you may find parts of it painfully cheesy at times but overall it is a fun watch if you don't take the details too seriously.

It is surprising the amount of stuff that is crammed into this movie, there is a little bit of everything that is sure to please a diverse audience. From the sci-fi premise mixed in with a fair about of drama, humour with a dash of romance to a handful of pretty high action scenes and thrilling nefarious plotlines. There is even a pretty cool martial arts brawl on a moving train. While the movie sounds like it's all over the place, it works pretty well with the overall story being depicted.

While the production value is pretty good, you’ll find the use of CG pretty dated but there aren't too many instances of it fortunately. Personally, I wasn’t really a fan of the musical numbers which were interspersed throughout the film. These were more like music videos that interrupted the flow of the film so personally not my cup of tea but they were still visually very nice and well choreographed.

The cast was great over all, yes there were a couple of silly characters and cartoonish villains but the lead playing the robot was spot on. A lot of the humor came from the robot’s interaction human culture and practices. Some aspects of the robot character reminded me a bit of terminator.

While many aspects of this film are average when compared to some other films, it is still overall a very enjoyable film. It is accessible both an international audience as well as an audience of all ages. If you are looking for something new to watch this one is worth checking out, if your curious about indian cinema this movie is a great place to start.
